UNIBET POKER SUMMARY
|
INTRODUCTION
Unibet were latecomers to the world of mobile poker apps, mainly because initially they were part of MPN, formerly the Microgaming Poker Network, who's original mobile poker software was of poor quality . In 2013 Unibet announced it was to launch its own poker network, and a mobile poker app finally appeared in early 2014, initially for iPads and Android-powered tablets only. As yet, the app does not have a version suitable for iPhones, Windows Phone or Android smartphones, although we expect to see one sometime in 2015. Unibet's online and mobile poker software is completely unique and isn't available anywhere else. |
HOW TO DOWNLOAD
You can only play poker on either the iPad or Android tablet version of the app if you have a Unibet account. For the sake of ease and convenience, it's best to open your Unibet account via Unibet's site on your desktop or laptop, which you can do by visiting Unibet.com.
All you need to do is click on the large, gold 'register' button and then fill in your personal details on the form that pops up. Once you've done that, you're all set!
Apple iPads: The Unibet mobile poker app is currently only available for the iPad, mainly due to the high quality of the graphics and images used, and will only run on iPads with iOS 6.0 or better. To obtain the app, you will need to go to iTunes and download the app to your iPad from there. When you load up iTunes, simply search for 'Unibet Poker'. Alternatively, you can visit the main Unibet site and follow the links to the mobile page, from where you'll find a direct link to the app itself.
Android Tablets: To obtain the Android version of the app on your tablet, you will need to visit unibet.co.uk/apps/poker/ on your device. You can also get to this page by heading to the main Unibet site and going to the mobile page.
On this page you will see a gold-coloured button marked 'Download' – click this to commence the download. The app is in the form of an apk (Android package) file. Once it has downloaded (which should not take long as it is only 24Mb in size), select the 'install' option to install the app to your device.
Note that you can only use the app if you are located in a jurisdiction where online poker is permitted. Your device must have geo-location services enabled for the app to work.
APP FEATURES
Unibet's mobile poker app is definitely geared towards the casual player, with a wide range of customisable avatars and table backgrounds. You are not forced to use the 'cartoon' approach, but non-serious players are likely to find these customisation options and highly-detailed backgrounds appealing. Series poker pros will not be so in favour of them. The 'casual gaming' side of the app is taken one step further with achievements you can unlock to enhance your standing among your poker peers. Players can also changer their alias as often as they like, which is great for recreational poker players who'd prefer to keep their identity hidden from poker sharks.
You can play cash games, Sit 'n' Go and Multi-table tournaments at both Texas Hold'em and Omaha. During cash games you can play at five (iPad) or four (Android) tables at once. Another neat feature is the ability to earn qualification for live Unibet Open tournaments via the app.
The lobby is very easy to use, and the software is extremely slick and works at a very high speed. The only downsides is the limited tournament schedule although we expect that to improve in time. Another negative is that when you sit down at a ring game you cannot choose where you want to sit – instead you are seated automatically.
BONUSES & PROMOTIONS
To get you started as a Unibet mobile poker player, Unibet very generously offer you a free, barely-any-strings-attached £10. This free £10 can only be used in NL4 games only (€0.02/€0.04), and comes with a play-through requirement of 750 flops, i.e., you must play at least 750 poker hands in which you do not fold before the flop has been dealt. You also have sixty days in which to meet your wagering requirements else any bonus money outstanding is voided.
In addition to this free £10, Unibet run a series of freeroll poker tournaments when you can play without risking a single penny of your own cash. These freerolls run every hour, every day of the week.
Unibet also make your poker life a little more interesting by offering a series of in-game missions for you to take on, with rewards and up to €500 in bonus cash that you can claim simply by indulging in your favourite pastime at the site.

CASHIER OPTIONS
Being backed by a company as big as Unibet, you'd expect there to be plenty of options when it comes to the cashier, and you will not be disappointed. Both Visa and MasterCard are covered, as well as wire transfers. You can also use eWallet solutions Skrill and Neteller, plus off-line pre-pay options Paysafecard and Ukash.
CONCLUSION
It seems obvious that Unibet have gone for the casual poker player rather than the serious grinder. The high quality of the graphics is nice, but the cartoon-style of the poker table and the “mission unlock” features lend more to social gaming than to WSOP-standard play.
If you are a casual player, then Unibet's poker app will definitely delight you, as there is more of a fun element to it than any aim to be the kind of app you download if you want to make some serious poker money. If you like to play real money poker for fun, the download this app now!
